Sonny’s 50th

Sonny’s Bike Shop turns 50! I was lucky enough to meet the Brester family while I was in college and they have become great friends in my life. Located in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Sonny’s Bike Shop has been in business since 1972 and has always provided quality work, and a vast knowledge surrounding bicycles and the cycling community. I personally wanted to buy a bike and had no issue in finding a place to get it, and Justin helped find the perfect cycle for me! When he reached out to me about doing a 50th Anniversary design, I didn’t hesitate to say yes! 50 years for any business is a huge accomplishment and I am proud to be a part of Sonny’s history!

This one was a bit challenging at points, how could I create a bicycle with the number 50? Through many different sketches I had finally landed on an idea. My main goal with this logo was something that was easily recognizable with a timeless look.

Another aspect I wanted this to have was to make it a badge, simple enough that it could even be made into a patch. It ended up being a t-shirt design, and as you can see below, it turned out great. I also helped recreate an old t-shirt design from the beginning years of Sonny’s that is shown on the front of the shirt.

If you know anything about Nebraska, you understand how big of a deal the color red is. I chose to use red for this logo for a few reasons. First, Sonny’s logo features red in it along with yellow, orange, and white. Second, as mentioned before, red runs deep in the Cornhusker State. Lastly, and the guys at Sonny’s Bike Shop will tell you this, RED BIKES ARE THE FASTEST.

My first “Anniversary” logo was so fun to make! I had to dig deep in the ‘ole brain to come up with this concept and I couldn’t be happier with how it came out! Something like this is incredible, and I can’t wait to do more!
